Abstract: For a baseband pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) signal limited to Nyquist frequency, mathematical derivation of the timing recovery for a fourth-law circuit followed by a band-pass filter is carried out. The results show that the derived timing wave is expressed as a function of the pulse shape entering the timing path and the bandpass filter tuned to the pulse repetition frequency.
